I read an interesting article written by Dr. Lowell Keppel about skin conditions beginning in the gut. I believe the information is worth sharing with you. 

Skin issues are the most common reason people visit the doctor in the United States. Following is a list of the most frequent skin issues the doctors see.

1- Acne
2- Atopic dermatitis (Eczema) This is the most common form of eczema seen in children.
3- Shingles
4- Hives
5- Sunburn
6- Contact dermatitis
7- Diaper rash
8- Rosacea
9- Athlete’s foot
10- Basal cell carcinoma

The common denominator with all these skin issues is the intestines. Why? The intestines are made up of epithelial cells, just like the skin. Toxins may build up in the body when there is an intestinal issue such as constipation or diarrhea and these toxins cannot get out through the colon. Instead, the toxins are released through the skin, causing rashes, hives, etc. 

Many years ago, I heard the statement “a healthy gut equals a healthy body”. In the years of my practice, I have found this to be very true. The first step to having a healthy gut begins with what you choose to put into your mouth. I am very aware of this on a daily basis and some days are more healthy than others. There are several different ways and additional steps to help heal your gut. The process is very individualized.
