Do you know healthy blood sugar numbers?

Glucose monitor

Hello, dear friends

Since we discussed that taking control of your blood sugar was the number one way to improve your health, do you know what blood sugar numbers are healthy and what they all mean?

When you go to the Doctor, you are likely to have a fasting blood sugar and/or an HbA1c. Your fasting blood sugar is a look at what your blood sugar is at that moment. That depends on what you ate the night before, did you sleep well, get to your appointment in a non stressed timely manner? All of these will affect your spot blood sugar test.

Ideal fasting blood sugar is from 70-85.

Blood sugar dysregulation starts at 86-99.

Prediabetes 100-125

126 and above is likely diabetic

Since there are so many factors that can affect your fasting blood sugar, there is another test that looks at your blood sugar average over a 2-3 month period. This test is called the Hemoglobin A1c or (HbA1c). So what is a normal HbA1c?

Normal 4%-5.6%

Prediabetes 5.7%-6.4%

Diabetes Above 6.5%

A fasting insulin test is also valuable information.

2-5 is ideal

6-15 is borderline

16 and above is significant insulin resistance

If your levels are elevated, your Doctor will most likely want to put you on medication to help lower your blood sugar. It is possible to lower your blood sugar with diet changes and moving your body after your meals.
