Foundational Nutrients for Better Brain Function

Hello my dear friend,

Several times a week, I hear a need for better concentration, improved focus, or additional help with brain fog. An article in Element Magazine discusses supplements to support the functioning of your brain and Carolyn Dean, M.D., N.D. shares information about the magnificent benefits of magnesium.

1- Acetyl-L-carnitine. This is an amino acid that our bodies make. It is best known for its support of cellular energy production and cellular metabolism. Our brains are very active and require a lot of energy to work which is why this amino acid is so beneficial.

2- Citicoline. This is a naturally occurring nutrient found in our brains. In clinical studies, it has shown to support attention, focus, and recall. It also helps increase phosphatidylcholine which is critical to brain health.

3- Phosphatidylserine. Phosphatidylserine is different from phosphatidylcholine in that it supports cognition and memory. This has been shown to help with memory as we age.

4- Omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3’s support us on many levels, which includes brain function. This helps support brain cell formation and activity by increasing cell to cell communication. Omega-3’s also contribute to a healthy inflammatory response in the brain.

5- Magnesium. Magnesium helps with brain fog, memory, and learning functions. It works as a transmitter of information between the brain and the body. Studies show the most common symptom of magnesium deficiency is brain fog. Dr. Carolyn Dean’s definition of brain fog is “a series of persistent symptoms that affect how the person experiences life daily, including: ability to focus, short-term memory loss, mental clarity, concentration, thoughts into words and the ability to even think.” Up to 75% of people do not receive the proper amount of magnesium.

Along with supplementation, a healthy diet is very important for better brain function. Here is a list of some foods that are very helpful in supporting our brains.

Vegetables
Blueberries
Fish
Whole grains
Nuts
Eggs
Protein
Dark Chocolate
Green tea

And these specific diets are also recommended if you are looking for a brain health diet.
Mediterranean diet

DASH diet
MIND diet

Thank you for an opportunity to share this information with you.

May your mind be full of peace and love and your brain function the best it can!

Much love and gratitude, Janalee
