Self Help Holds

Hello my dear friend,

Have you heard of self help holds? I had not until I came upon this information from Astrid Kauffmann who is a Jin Shin Jyutsu Practitioner and Self Help Teacher. She suggests specific hand holds to help with the emotions – worry, fear, anger, sadness, and efforting.

Our energy body is made up of 144,000 energy functions. They are energy pathways like rivers that connect us head to toe and backup, toe to head. All of the energy pathways are found in your hands, so holding a finger helps 144,000 energy functions. By holding your thumb or your fingers for a few minutes, you can soothe and calm your mind and body. This is something you can do anywhere, anytime, and no one will know what you are doing. I love self help techniques like this. 

All you have to do is wrap your fingers of your left hand around the finger or thumb of your right hand, choosing the emotion you are wanting to address. I will start with the thumb and continue through the fingers.

Hold your thumb for worry.
 This also can also help insomnia, stomachaches, headaches, stress and nervousness, calming, grounding and nurturing. Use this hold when you have to sit a lot.

Hold your index finger for fear. This can also be helpful for backaches, digestion, constipation, self criticism, shyness, muscle tension, and teeth and gums. Use this hold when you have to be on your feet for extended periods of time.

Hold your middle finger for anger. This can help blood pressure, general fatigue, eyes, irritability and balance emotions. Use this hold when you have to read a lot.

Hold your ring finger for grief. This hold can also help ringing in the ears (tinnitus), respiratory functions, excessive mucus, skin conditions. Use this hold when you are sick in bed.

Hold your little finger for ‘efforting’. This hold can also help with heart discomforts (palpitations), bloating, time for ME, trying too hard (at anything), insecurity and nervousness. Use this hold when you need to walk a lot.

If you do not have time to hold each finger, or you are unsure of which to hold, you can place your finger at the center of each palm of your hands. This harmonizes our whole being on a physical, mental, emotional, and soul level so it helps ease despondency or depression and fatigue.
