Spring Is In The Air!

dusting spray homemade

Hello friends,

Spring is in the air! Spring air smells new, fresher, and more vibrant than winter air. With this change comes the desire to clean and freshen everything from windows to sofas to walls and doors, to every surface nook and cranny. Cleaning in a holistic way is becoming more and more popular and recipes abound on the virtues of making your own and using natural ingredients that kill bacteria and germs and enhance the fresh smells of Spring.

But why would you want to make your own cleaning products? Two good reasons are first, the cost and second, you know what the ingredients are in your product. Knowing what is in your cleaning products is a must, especially with so many things causing allergies. Some of the natural ingredients for cleaning like vinegar, baking soda, and maybe ammonia, you probably already have in your pantry, and are relatively cheap to buy.

Adding essential oils to your cleaning products enhances the products’ ability to kill bacteria and germs and, also infuses their wonderful smells into the air. Essential oils can be used in laundry detergents, cleaning sprays, soaps, and just about anything you would use.

I would like to share a recipe I found at www.oneessentialcommunity.com for Dusting Spray. I am currently using this product and I can honestly say that I’m not seeing as much dust on the furniture as I have in the past. So, I’m thinking this spray is a keeper!!

How to Make Dusting Spray in 4 easy steps:

1. Add 1 cup distilled water to a 16 oz. spray bottle

Tip: Use glass, stainless steel, Plastic #1 HDPE or #2 Pet.

2. Add ½ cup white vinegar

Tip: vinegar is a great natural cleaner the cuts through dirt and grime and even helps repel dust from sticking to the surface.

3. Add ¼ cup of a carrier oil

Tip: Fractionated coconut oil is a great carrier oil to use as it has no scent, never goes bad, doesn’t leave a sticky residue and it sinks into the wood and moisturizes furniture nicely.

Tip: You can also use sweet almond oil or olive oil.

4. Add 30 drops essential oil

Tip: Oils like lemon, orange, or grapefruit have a wonderfully invigorating fresh scent,  and they do a great job of cutting through any dirt or grime.

I encourage you to make a custom dusting spray in a scent you love or try any of the following combinations:

Fresh Home: 20 drops lemon + 10 drops lavender

Citrus Grove: 15 drops orange + 10 drops lemon + 5 drops grapefruit

Clean & Fresh: 20 drops lemon + 10 drops peppermint

Clean & Calm: 20 drops orange + 10 drops lavender

Cozy Fall: 20 drops orange + 5 drops cinnamon + 3 drops cardamom + 2 drops clove

However, you choose to embrace the changing of the seasons, find joy in your journey and essential oils in your cupboards!

Much love,

Roxanne
