Easter Celebration!

Celebrate Easter

Easter is next Sunday, and in honor of this glorious day, I am going to recommend a book that one of you, my wonderful client, recommended to me. The title is A Shepherd Looks at Psalm 23 written by Phillip Keller. I am quoting from the introduction.

“This book has been developed against a rather unique back-ground, which has perhaps given me a deeper appreciation than most men of what David had in mind when he wrote his beautiful poem. First of all, I grew up and lived in East Africa, surrounded by simple native herders whose customs closely resembled those of their counterparts in the Middle East. So I am intimately acquainted with the romance, the pathos, and the picturesque life of an Easter shepherd. Secondly, as a young man, I actually made my own livelihood for about eight years as a sheep owner and sheep rancher. Consequently, I write as one who has had first hand experience with every phase of sheep management. Later as the lay pastor of a community church, I shared the truths of this psalm, as a shepherd, with my ‘flock,’ every Sunday for several months.”

I really enjoyed this book. I learned more about herding sheep than I ever wanted to know but with that knowledge I understand why the Savior refers to us as His sheep and how much we need Him to navigate through this life. The book is a short and very beautiful read, and very timely for me to read just before this Easter celebration.

I could go on and on and do an in depth review of this book, but to share everything I would like, it would be a year review. I promise, it is easier for you to read it yourself and find the messages that stand out to you.

Whether or not you celebrate Easter as the celebration of the resurrection of our Savior Jesus Christ, I hope that you are enjoying the change in the weather and the color returning to our earth. I love green, the blossoms on the trees, the warmth from the sun, and the longer light during the day. It renews me!
