Can the mineral Sulfur help acne?

acne

Hello my dear friend,

Are you one of the lucky people that did not have an issue with acne? Yay, you get to read something else. If you are like me and have had issues with acne your whole life, read on.

First I would like to address factors that can contribute to causing more acne.

Hormones- Especially during teenage years, hormones can cause your skin to get oily. If you happen to be female, this can occur throughout your life during your periods and pregnancy. Too much oil will block your pores as it mixes with dead skin cells.

Germs- Tiny germs can grow in your blocked pores which makes them red and pus filled.

Hereditary- If your parents had acne, good chance you will too.

Food- Diet is important in having healthy skin. Eating a lot of sugar, processed foods and sometimes dairy can make acne worse for some people.

Feeling Stressed- Stress can indirectly affect you in having more breakouts.

Makeup and Face Products- Using makeup that your skin does not like, and/or not washing it off at night can cause acne.

Some Medicines- Certain medications can cause acne as a side effect.

Your Environment- Humid weather, pollution can irritate your skin and make acne worse.

Now let’s discuss the role of sulfur in healthy skin. Sulfur has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties that make it great in preventing acne.
Here is how sulfur can help your skin.

Reduces oil which helps dry your skin out a bit.

Enhances new cell growth which keeps your pores clearer.

Slows or cuts down on bacteria that causes acne.

Reduces redness and swelling.

Tackles Fungus.

Can calm down the redness of Rosacea.

Sulfur is found in many skin care products. It is also in products for dandruff, psoriasis and eczema to help with flaky skin.

Where do we find sulfur in our diet?

It is found in animal protein.

Also, these vegetables have a good amount of sulfur:

Broccoli, Cauliflower, Cabbage, Kale, Brussels sprouts and the superstars of sulfur are Garlic, Onions, Leeks and Shallots!

Sulfur just might be the acne-fighting hero you are looking for!

Much love, gratitude and joy! Janalee
