Fill Your Cup!

fill your cup

Dear friends,

I read an article on goal setting this morning that took me on a totally different but similar tangent than I was going to share this week soo… hold on as we exit 2024 and enter 2025. The article was written by Emily Linder who is the managing editor for a church magazine.

Emily says she was getting ready to set her reading goal for the curriculum that her church is studying this year. She reflected on the reality of actually accomplishing that goal. In the past years, she never quite celebrated that goal. At the end of the year she was left frustrated, disappointed, and even a little guilty. One more year of not hitting the mark.

This year, she is still setting the goal but with a different mindset – reading everything recommended is not the point! Her success marker is no longer getting through all the information.. It is filling her cup, not checking the box! Her commitment is not less than because she doesn’t read every page. She is in it for the journey and what she learns along the way.

Now that we have moved out of 2024 and into 2025, I would like to invite you to consider a different mind set when making (and keeping) your New Year’s resolutions:

  • Fill your cup instead of checking a box
  • Small consistent daily efforts
  • Share your thoughts, experiences and questions behind your goal with others
  • Focus on what you are learning and the growth that is happening
  • It’s not about finishing – it’s about experiencing the journey
  • Learn to celebrate the wins no matter how small

May the year 2025 fill our cups with what we are learning and feeling, unburdened by the pressure of finishing.

Love Carrie
