Sweets and Treats

Hey Everyone!
We have stepped into what I call the “sweet and treat” holidays. Do you know that we have 5 major holidays between now and next spring?! Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s, Valentine’s Day, and Easter. Not to mention, we kick off the holidays with Halloween!!! All of these holidays come in the cold, winter months with less sunshine – we get to cohabitate in closer communities – enjoy more family/friend time catching up on life – enjoy “sweets and treats” as we socialize. Not to be a party pooper, but this time of the year also comes on the cusp of cold and flu season, and no one wants to miss out on the parties and fun by being sick.
Here are some guidelines to lessen or prevent the impact of illnesses during the season ahead:
Good handwashing – Studies have shown that the BEST line of defense against disease is good handwashing – AT LEAST 20 SECONDS – Sing Yankee Doodle, Happy Birthday, or the ABC song.
Drink plenty of water – The winter months are cold and we tend to go into hibernation mode but that DOES NOT mean we should drink less water. Our bodies are made up of over 80% water and we still need to stay hydrated in cold weather months as well as warm weather months.
Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces – For me, this also includes periodically putting my toothbrush through the dishwasher.
Get plenty of uninterrupted sleep.
Stay physically active and SEEK out the sunshine. If the sun is out, bundle up and go for a short walk in the sun. If walking outside is not an option, then open the curtains and sit by the window and let the sun warm you up!
Eat nutritious food – counter the “sweets and treats” with a good probiotic for the gut!
Avoid close contact with people who are sick – stay home if you are sick.
I encourage you to come on over to Beeing Well and check out the great products we have to strengthen the immune system, enjoy the holiday time with our “peeps” and embrace the New Year in good health.
Hope you all have a wonderful holiday season and spread some love and kindness wherever you are!
