Healthy Finances – Begin With A Budget

Hello friends!
One of the most valuable services you can do for yourself is to develop and maintain an effective budget.
Budgeting is a simple beginning strategy that can have a big effect on healthy finances.
The foundation of any successful budget starts with where you are today.
- Do you have money coming in? Write down all the income streams such as salary, social security, part-time work, investments.
- Where does your money go? Keep a log of your fixed expenses and your variable expenses. Fixed expenses are bills that you typically pay every month like your mortgage/rent, car payment, phone, or utilities. Variable expenses are the items that may change month to month like dining out, supplements, or clothing.
- Look at the overall picture. What do you spend your money on that you need? What do you spend your money on that you want? What do you spend your money on that you wish for?
- Set and evaluate your goals. Think about and write down your short-term goals. What do you hope to accomplish in the next six months to five years? Do you have mid-term goals? What would you like to happen in five years to ten years? How do you see your life in more than ten years? Do you have long-term goals?
- Create a savings plan. One of the most important steps to creating healthy finances is to set aside money in a savings account that can cover at least three to six months of essential expenses.
