The seasons are changing, and so should your food.

Change your food with the seasons

Can you feel it in the air yet? The seasons are changing.

And maybe you’ve started to switch out your summer attire for cozy sweaters and fleece pajamas. Maybe you’ve been soaking up every last ounce of sunlight, as the days get shorter and shorter.

Have you also been switching out the food in your fridge?

There are a lot of health benefits to eating foods that are “in season”. But also, seasonal foods just tend to taste better.

Foods that are consumed during their season are more nutritionally dense. Most vegetables grown during their peak season have higher vitamin content than when they were grown outside of their season.

That’s because when food is grown outside of its seasonal window, that food is not able to follow the natural growing flow. And that’s when outside sources step in to use chemicals and films on these vegetables to protect them and keep them alive for longer.

That’s why you’ll see asparagus, for example, in your stores year-round even though it’s only in season from Feb-May.

It still tastes great outside of season, but when it’s in season? It tastes even better AND has more vitamins since they were able to grow naturally.

If you’re able to buy local produce, I highly recommend doing so. You’ll know it’s in season because your local farmers are only growing what will grow naturally, in season!

Versus that eggplant that wasn’t in season but you were still able to get at the grocery store. It probably had to travel a loooong way and by then, what’s left of it is just filler.
