Why do men let go of weight easier than women?
Hello my friend- I hope life is treating you with kindness. This week, I am sharing an answer I found to something that has been very frustrating for me for a very long time. I can stop eating sugar, give up my diet soda, decrease my serving sizes, increase my exercise, and do I let go of any weight? Well, maybe a pound or two…but not even close to what my husband can do by cutting back and not giving up anything. This is not fair and I scream internally! Today, I finally have a reason. It has to do with being female and being able to feed a growing fetus for 9 months in the womb and then a year or longer out of the womb. Calories are more precious to a woman’s body than a man’s body. So, when we as women decide to restrict our calories or go on a diet, our body actually gets anxious. It looks for ways to hoard what it has and not let go of it. Our woman’s body will do whatever it takes to make sure it is prepared to do its biological job. If those special baby making days are behind you like they are for me, then you get to deal with a dramatic shift in your hormones as well as your metabolism. Still no quick fix for easy weight loss. The best weight reduction program is the one that works for you. Yes, I know that is a lame answer, but it is the right one. There are many facets to holding onto extra weight. Sometimes a change in our activity is all we need, sometimes we need to do some emotional releasing, hormone balancing, and a change in our eating habits. Sometimes we need a shoulder to lean on or a friend to support us in our journey. Being grateful for the beautiful gift of our body is the best place to start! You can never go wrong with being grateful! Start by loving your body where you are NOW! Find a body part each time you are showering or bathing to be grateful for. Love it and thank it. It truly makes a difference. I hope this helps you have a better understanding of your body and weight. Oh, one other thing… A diet that works great for a man is NOT the right diet for a woman. It actually may be harmful. BE very careful out there. Love to you! Janalee |
